These four weeks have been the best four weeks ever. It was such an amazing experience. I'll be really sad to leave because we're like one big family! i would recommend this project to anyone and I really hope to return next year. I will never forget the memories here spent with the kids and all of the other volunteers/friends.

I have worked for 8 weeks in the surf program and can’t believe that the time is over now. On one side the time runs so fast, but on the other side I have done so many things here, that it feels I have been here for a year. I have seen another world in the townships that I have never seen before, and I will go back to Germany with a lot of new experiences. I’m glad that almost all of them are positive and it was hard to say goodbye to my surf group. They became friends in the last weeks. I have met so many nice people at SaltyCrax also. They made this stay an awesome trip.

I had a great time. Employers of SaltyCrax are really nice and thy make great effort to make you feel like home. Working with the kids was really nice and I was glad to see that the people in Dunoon were so grateful for what we do.

Hands on experience excellent. To see an actual township and to work there was nice. Some of the kids are quite aggressive so the need for someone to set limits and to learn manors. They just need a lot of care and love. Something like more activities could be organized for the kids, because they just color and do puzzles but then again with the circumstances its hard to organize things and also to come up with new things. But over all, good and the kids really need volunteers in their life.

I’m so grateful for getting a chance to do something like this< it has been a really great experience! It’s good that SaltyCrax has so many social events because when you out working all day it’s nice to spend time with everyone in the evenings.

It has been the best experience in my life, so I would recommend it to everybody. It makes you a better person in some ways. You as volunteers see a lot more of the other side that many people don’t get to see. I’m glad I did it and would like to do it again someday.

I’m really enjoying my stay here in South Africa and the last three months I’ve spent working with the kids. This is my first long-time and far away stay from home and my last three months have been really special. I enjoy working with the children every day and I find it very fulfilling. Not only have I been able to enjoy the beautiful culture in this country, but I have also been able to make a difference in the children’s lives. Surfing and swimming with the kids in the sea is really a lot of fun and I love doing activities at the school. I look forward to the rest of my stay here!

Four weeks here, only one week left L but i love the adventure project, the kids, Saltys, and South Africa. I have had such an amazing time here, and i have loved every minute i have spent volunteering here, and all the people i have met.

I have been volunteering for two weeks on the TLC program. Every morning we go to Wolvo and work with the same 6 kids. This is good as you really need to know the kids and hopefully see the progress. It is very clear that the kids need this help as they are very neglected. The kids look for attention, someone to play with, and we try to give some basic preparation for school. Its not easy, the kids can be tough, and not easy getting discipline, but its definitely a life experience. (One of the most meaningful I had.) Best way to be exposed to the problematic situation here in South Africa and understand why it will take much more time and resources to change it. If i would do it again, 2 weeks is way too short, so I would make it longer (at least a month). I would also try to make a long term plan with the kids and think about a reward and discipline system. My experience on the adventure program is one that will forever be life changing. I have grown and experienced so much love that will have an impact on my life forever. I am sad that I can’t stay longer because it means more to me than anything to be able to give to this community and try to help contribute in any way that I can. My stay at SaltyCrax has also been wonderful and I wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else. SaltyCrax feels like home. I am so thankful for this experience.

During the three months I spent with the surf outreach program I was able to experience a completely different culture and learn new skills, and make a positive impact on all the kids lives. Surfing was good but what was more important was making a difference in the kids’ lives.

"First off all I want to say that I had a lot of fun here at SaltyCrax and I have really enjoyed being a volunteer here with you! I have been very interesting to work with the South African kids! I really enjoyed the educare and the school. Too bad that the weather had sucked a bit and that it effected the programme. And that the school had exams the last week and a half. But Jen really did everything in her power to make our volunteer Programme good anyway, but of course she can’t control the weather and school exams! She has been great! It has been an unfortunate 3 weeks we had chosen! But otherwise it has been sooo great here, and I will never forget it forever!"

Saltycrax as an organization is amazing, the work I’ve been doing puts a smile on my face everyday. We get first-hand experience and instant gratification from bettering even 5 hours of a deserving child's life. On top of the awe inspiring work we do, we get to come home to the Saltycrax staff who makes me feel like a part of a family. I will never forget these past 2 weeks.

Missing this program sooo much already!! It was amazing visiting the settlements and working at the school. The kids were so smart and learned things so quickly. Not to mention the surfing and all the people and employees at Salty Crax were awesome! =) I hope that I can come back someday!
